Adam J. Altman, M.D. -
Dr. Altman , a corneal specialist, joined West Reading
Ophthalmic Associates in September 1995. Dr. Altman received his
undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst, Magna cum Laude. He received his medical degree from
the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1985. He
performed an ophthalmology residency at Duke University Medical
Center in Durham, North Carolina from 1986 to 1989. Dr. Altman
completed a Cornea and External Eye Disease fellowship at the
prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He
was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1990.
Dr. Altman has presented several papers at Wills Eye Hospital's
Annual Conferences, including; Streptococcus Pneumonia and
Scleritis, Pterygium Surgery, Peripheral Ulcerative Keratitis,
and Recurrent Erosion Syndrome. He served as an Assistant
Professor of Ophthalmology, Cornea Service at Wills Eye
Hospital.

John W. Beem, M.D.,
F.A.C.S. - Dr. Beem is a founding partner of Eye
Consultants of Pennsylvania, formerly West Reading Ophthalmic
Associates. He has a long standing special interest in cataract
surgery. He received his undergraduate and medical school
training at Temple University, obtaining his Medical degree in
1962. He completed his internship at the Reading Hospital and
Medical Center the following year. Following his internship, he
served for two years as a General Medical Officer in the United
States Army. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the
University of Pennsylvania in 1968. Dr. Beem began the practice
of ophthalmology in West Reading, in 1968, as an individual
practitioner. He co-founded Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania,
formerly West Reading Ophthalmic Associates, in 1972, with Dr.
Paul Kenneth Nase. Since then, he has been intimately involved
in the successful development of Eye Consultants of
Pennsylvania. Dr. Beem has surgical privileges at the Reading
Hospital and Medical Center, The Pottsville Hospital and Warne
Clinic and at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Dr. Beem is
certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow
of the American College of Surgeons.

Mark A. DiPillo, M.D.
- Dr. DiPillo, Glaucoma and Cataract Specialist, graduated the
Syracuse University in 1978, and received his M.D. degree at
S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1983. Dr.
DiPillo served his Internal Medicine Residency at Denver,
Colorado from 1983 to 1985. He then served his Ophthalmology
Residency at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. from
1985 to 1988, and was elected Chief Resident his senior year.
Dr. DiPillo completed his Glaucoma and Anterior Segment
Fellowship at the S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center, Brooklyn, New
York in June 1989. Dr. DiPillo is an Assistant Professor of
Ophthalmology at the Albany Medical College, New York. He has
served as Clinical Instructor in Ophthalmology at the University
of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Hospital. Prior to joining Eye
Consultants of PA in June 1994, Dr. DiPillo was in Academic
practice at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y.
as Director of the Glaucoma Service, and Director of Resident
Education in Small Incision Cataract Surgery. In addition to Dr.
DiPillo's extensive Glaucoma experience, he is a highly
accomplished Cataract Surgeon with broad experience in Advanced
Small Incision Phacoemulsification procedures. Dr. DiPillo has
extensive experience in Small Pupil Cataract Surgery, and
Combined Cataract Extraction with Trabeculectomy. Dr. DiPillo
served as instructor in the Advanced Phacoemulsification Course
at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and also served as
Director of the New York City Residents Phacoemulsification
Course.

David S.
Goldberg, M.D., F.A.A.P. - Dr. Goldberg completed his
Ophthalmic Residency at Louisiana State University and his
Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship with the renowned Zane
Pollard, M.D. of Eye Care Associates in Atlanta, Georgia. He has
a special interest in Oculoplastic Surgery in both children and
adults. Dr. Goldberg graduated with high honors from Princeton
University and served an externship at Wills Eye Hospital. He
graduated from the University of South Florida Medical School as
a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society. Dr. Goldberg
will be a welcome addition to our Pediatric and Adult Strabismus
practices, which continue to expand significantly in the
Reading, Pottsville, Pottstown and Lancaster regions.

Winifred W. Kao,
M.D., F.A.C.S. - Dr. Kao graduated from the University
of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson
Medical School in 1987. She completed her Otorhinolaryngology,
Head and Neck Surgery Residency at the Temple University
Hospital, Philadelphia 1992. In 1992 Dr. Kao joined Berks E.N.T.
Surgical Associates, Inc. Dr. Kao is Board Certified and her
practice encompasses all aspects of Otorhinolaryngology. She has
particular expertise in the area of endoscopic sinus surgery,
the most advanced form of sinus surgery. She is also actively
involved in the Cochlear Implant program at The Reading Hospital
and Medical Center.

Sheldon J. Kaplan,
M.D. F.A.C.S. - Dr. Kaplan specializes in all areas of
Vitreo-Retinal diseases and surgery. He is heavily involved in
area Sight Loss Support Groups, having founded three of them in
Berks County, Schuylkill County and Susquehanna County. Most
recently, he organized the Pottstown Sight Loss Support Group.
The purpose of these groups is to help those patients with sight
loss adapt to their disability. Dr. Kaplan took his
undergraduate degree at Colgate University, and his medical
training at the George Washington University School of Medicine.
He spent a clerkship for neurology in London at the Queens
Square Neurologic Institute, followed by two years in health
service. He then completed one year of medical residency at
Boston City Hospital Tufts Medical Division. Dr. Kaplan than
completed a three year ophthalmology residency at Boston
University, Tufts Affiliated Program. Dr. Kaplan also trained as
a Vitreo-Retinal surgeon in a major diabetic center in Wisconsin
with Dr. Matthew Davis. For two and a half years, he researched
diabetic and radiation retinopathy. In completing his Vitreo-Retinal
fellowship, he performed multiple retinal detachment and vitreo-retinal
surgeries. He has presented papers to various ophthalmologic
groups on many aspects of vitreo-retinal disease and surgery. He
spent 10 months on the Hospital Ship Hope, treating and training
his Brazilian counterparts in Brazil in retinal surgery. He
spent one month working in the Missionary Hospital in Nicaragua,
as an ophthalmologist.

Lee A. Klombers, M.D.
- Dr. Klombers came to Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania in 1991,
from Duke University, where he completed his Fellowship in
Pediatric Ophthalmology, Adult Strabismus and Neuro-ophthalmology.
He received his B.A. from Amherst College in Massachusetts,
where he was selected to Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Klombers received
his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of
Medicine, and completed his internship at Montefiore Hospital.
He was a resident at Duke University Eye Center for three years,
and, after his fellowship, joined Eye Consultants of
Pennsylvania. He has presented research efforts to the
Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the
Walsh Society. He is Board certified by the American Academy of
Ophthalmology. Dr. Klombers is specially trained to manage all
forms of childhood and adult strabismus, with the use of
adjustable sutures and botulinum toxin. He has special interest
and experience in the treatment of pediatric cataracts (with IOL
implantation), pediatric glaucoma, oculoplastics, retinopathy of
prematurity (including photocoagulation and cryotherapy),
congenital malformations of the orbit, and retinoblastoma.
Further, he is qualified to treat blepharospasm and hemifacial
spasm with botulinum toxin as well as to perform optic nerve
decompressions and temporal artery biopsies in the appropriate
clinical settings.

Edna Z. Mahmood, M.D.
- Dr. Mahmood, a glaucoma specialist, has been an integral part
of Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania since August 1981. She
received her medical schooling from Fatima Jinnah Medical
College and completed her straight ophthalmology internship at
Ganga Ram University in Pakistan. Her other qualifications
include certification in ophthalmology from Ganga Ram University
Hospital, a rotatory internship from Branson Hospital in
Toronto, Canada, and an ophthalmologic residency at McMaster
Medical Center in Ontario. She completed her Glaucoma fellowship
with Dr. George L. Spaeth, Director of Glaucoma Services, at the
prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Mahmood has presented several papers at Wills Eye Hospital's
Annual Conferences. Dr. Mahmood has a highly successful glaucoma
practice, offering the full spectrum of Glaucoma related
procedures.

Barry C. Malloy, M.D.
- Dr. Malloy, Vitreo-Retinal Specialist, received his
undergraduate training at University of Massachusetts at Amherst
and received his Medical Degree from University of Massachusetts
Medical School. He completed his medical internship at Berkshire
Medical Center, and his residency in ophthalmology was served at
the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Malloy completed a
Vitreo-Retinal fellowship at Washington Hospital Center in 1990.
He is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and
by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He performed research in
Medical Treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy and Vitamin Therapy
for Retrolental Fibroplasia. He was the recipient of the
University Scholar Award for Academic Achievement from the
University of Massachusetts.

Jonathan D. Primack, M.D.
- Dr. Primack received his undergraduate degree Magna Cum Laude from Washington University in St. Louis. He attended the Washington University School of Medicine and subsequently served as an Intern at Lenox Hill Hospital. He performed his Ophthalmology Residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Primack next completed a two year Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary at Harvard Medical School. While at Harvard, he was a recipient of the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Fellowship. For over four years, Dr. Primack has served as the Director of Refractive Surgery at the North Shore - Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Long Island, New York. He currently holds an academic title of Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Primack is Board certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology.

Gianfranco
Toso, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S. - Dr. Toso graduated from
the University of Bologna Medical School, Italy in 1956. He
completed his Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery
Residency at the Newark Eye & Ear Infirmary, New Jersey in 1963
and started his practice in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1964. Dr.
Toso has been the leader in the development and advancement of
ear surgery. In 1986 he started The Reading Hospital & Medical
Center Cochlear Implant program with Elca Swigart, Ph.D.,
becoming the first surgeon in Eastern Pennsylvania to perform a
cochlear implantation. Dr. Toso is Board Certified and his
practice encompasses all aspects of Otorhinolaryngology. He
specializes in ear surgery, and has developed advanced
techniques for reconstruction of the ear canal and elimination
of the mastoid cavity after ear surgery. He served as Section
Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology, The Reading
Hospital and Medical Center until 1997.

Joseph R. Watson, D.O.
- Dr. Watson graduated from the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998.
He completed his Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck, and Facial
Plastic Surgery Residency at the Philadelphia College of
Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. Dr. Watson joined Berks E.N.T.
Surgical Associates, Inc. in July of 2005. Dr. Watson is Board
Certified. His practice encompasses all aspects of
Otorhinolaryngology.

Elliot B. Werner, M.D.
- A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Werner, Glaucoma
Specialist, attended undergraduate and medical school at the
University of Pennsylvania. He completed his ophthalmology
residency at McGill University in Montreal and a fellowship in
glaucoma at the University of British Columbia with Dr, Stephen
Drance, one of the pioneers in developing glaucoma specialty
training. After completing his training in 1977, Dr. Werner
joined the faculty at McGill University and was appointed
Director of the Glaucoma Service at the prestigious Royal
Victoria Hospital in Montreal. In 1982, Dr. Werner joined the
faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Department of
Ophthalmology, Scheie Eye Institute in Philadelphia. During this
time he also served as Chief of Ophthalmology at the
Philadelphia Veterans Administration Hospital. In 1988, Dr.
Werner joined the faculty at Hahnemann University (now Drexel
University College of Medicine). He rose to the rank of full
professor and Chief of the Glaucoma Service in the Department of
Ophthalmology. He has also been a member of the Wills Eye
Hospital Glaucoma Service, Co-Chief of the Glaucoma Center at
The Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, and
has served as President of the Section on Ophthalmology for the
Philadelphia College of Physicians. Dr. Werner is certified by
the American Board of Ophthalmology as well as the Royal College
of Surgeons of Canada. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology and a member of several national and international
societies including the American Glaucoma Society and the
International Perimetric (Visual Field) Society. He has received
the American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award and is a
member of AOA, the National Medical Honor Society. He is the
author of over fifty original scientific papers as well as a
contributing author to numerous textbooks.

Edward Joseph
Zobian, M.D., F.A.C.S. - Dr. Zobian is President of Eye
Consultants of Pennsylvania and chief of the Department of
Ophthalmology at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. Dr.
Zobian obtained his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Chemistry
from Haverford College, and his Medical Degree from the
University of Pennsylvania. During his senior year at medical
school, he was appointed to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor
Society for academic excellence. He served his internship at the
Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco. Following his
discharge from the Army, he was an ophthalmology resident at the
Wills Eye Hospital, in Philadelphia. He was appointed Chief
Resident Surgeon during his senior year at Wills Eye. Dr. Zobian
then served as a Clinical Assistant at Wills Eye Hospital for
over four years. He began practicing ophthalmology with West
Reading Ophthalmic Associates in 1973 and has built a highly
successful practice during this time. In February of 1975, Dr.
Zobian initiated the technique of lens implant surgery in the
Berks County area, and has continued with a progressive approach
to ophthalmic surgical care. He was the first surgeon to use
small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery in the
Reading area. He also was one of the first to do cataract
surgery without the use of sutures. Dr. Zobian also was the
first to use no injection drop anesthesia for Cataract surgery.
He has performed over 12,000 cataract operations in his career.
